The Minister of Education and Research, Kristina Kallas, was on a working visit to Helsinki and Stockholm this week in order to strengthen Estonia's cooperation with the Nordic countries, share experiences and find ways to implement joint projects and initiatives.

"During the meetings with my Finnish colleagues, I realized again that we are making the right educational reforms. I shared how I plan to solve the problems related to teachers' salary and working conditions in Estonia, raise the compulsory school age, reform vocational education and the school network. The same reforms are planned to be made or have already been made in Finland, according to them, the raising of the compulsory education age has also been successful," said Kallas.

"I have given Estonia the role of a country that is optimistic about technology and artificial intelligence in education, because I see an opportunity in it. I am actively looking for like-minded countries to strengthen our global network and promote innovative ideas," the minister added. "In addition, I have the pleasure to return home knowing that Finnish edtech companies are very interested in cooperating with Estonian edtechs."

In Helsinki, the minister met Sari Multala, Minister of Science and Culture of Finland, and Mikaela Nylander, State Secretary to the Minister of Education. The visit also included meetings with representatives of the Finnish Teachers' Union, Helsinki Education Hub and the University of Helsinki. At the Sibelius Gymnasium, the minister had the opportunity to take part in the Estonian language class there.

In Stockholm, the minister met with his colleague Lotta Edholm and the chairman of the Riksdag Education Committee, Fredrik Malm. The visit included visits to the Swedish Estonian School and the Royal University of Technology.
