Today, Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas is participating in the informal session of the EU's research ministers in Santander, Spain, the country holding the presidency. The topics of discussion at the meeting are the strengthening of the EU's scientific diplomacy and the political priorities of the European Horizon strategic plan for the years 2025-2027.

Minister Kristina Kallas encourages Estonian research institutions and companies to use the opportunities of EU funds and support measures for international cooperation and development. "Science and innovation are the foundations of the success and security of Estonia. Our researchers have been extremely successful in bringing European research funding home."

Kallas added that at the meeting, she will stand for the specificities and needs of small member states to be taken into account more than before, so that Estonian researchers, as well as companies, would have even more convenient opportunities for international cooperation.

The EU's common science diplomacy framework ensures that the member states are guided by common principles and positions in international cooperation. The framework would also enable small countries to contribute to solving global challenges and would ensure safe international cooperation.
