Council of Europe, together with its 46 member states, promotes democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Europe.
UNESCO
UNESCO is a UN specialist organisation whose goal is to support restoring peace and security in the world.
To achieve this, UNESCO promotes international cooperation in the fields of education, culture, research, informational and communicational technologies and media. One of the main tasks of UNESCO in education is to advise developing countries on shaping and implementing educational policies. Estonia joined UNESCO on 14 October 1991.
From autumn 2013 to autumn 2017, Estonia was a member of the UNESCO Executive Council for the first time. The Executive Council is the governing body of UNESCO that consists of 58 member states (there are 195 member states in total).
Former French minister of culture and communications Audrey Azolay was confirmed as Director-General at the UNESCO conference on 10 November 2017.
Activities and cooperation related to UNESCO in Estonia are coordinated by the Estonian National Commission for UNESCO.
