Minister Kristina Kallas said that girls choose science subjects less often than boys, and this is an unused potential for society. "We have now launched an engineering academy in Estonia, with the activities of which we are trying to increase the interest of young people to study engineering," said Kallas. "We pay special attention to the target group of girls and female students."
At the session of the youth ministers, the ministers exchange ideas on how to better involve young people in EU decision-making. Minister Kallas considers it important that the state supports the active participation of young people in social life and strengthens the role of young people in decision-making processes. "One way to expand the rights of young people is to lower the voting age, for example, as Austria and Germany have done" she said.
During the visit, Minister Kristina Kallas will meet with colleagues from Germany and Slovenia to discuss areas of cooperation between the countries.
