Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas participated in the high-level Le Grand Continent Summit in Italy on December 4–5. Held for the second year, the event brings together Europe's and the world's political elite, intellectuals, and thought leaders to discuss key challenges shaping the future of Europe.

Minister Kallas took part in three significant panel discussions at the summit, addressing challenges related to the future of Europe, AI, and transatlantic relations. In these discussions, the minister highlighted Estonia's achievements in digital education and innovation, sharing perspectives on Europe's strategic development for the future.

“AI allows us to rethink what and why we learn, focusing on skills that machines cannot replace,” explained Minister Kristina Kallas. She emphasized that a key factor in Europe's economic success is a population equipped with high-level digital competencies, capable of using AI and digital tools wisely while considering ethical and security risks. “We need to start developing these competencies already in kindergarten and continue at all levels of education,” Kallas added.

The high-level panel discussions provided a platform for strategic dialogues with global leaders, including Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares and Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko. The panels underscored the importance of shaping Europe’s strategic priorities, fostering innovation, and advancing digital skills.
