18.02.2025 | 05:50

Today, Finnish Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz is on an official visit to Estonia. Estonian Minister of Education and Research Kristina Kallas will provide her Finnish counterpart with an overview of Estonia’s ongoing education reforms and take him to visit the Tallinn Music and Ballet School (MUBA) and Tallinn Pelgulinna State Gymnasium (PERG). The ministers will participate in an open discussion with PERG students to explore the role of AI in education. The ministers will sign a joint declaration on the ethical and strategic use of AI in education in Estonia and Finland.

According to Minister Kristina Kallas, Estonia must better prepare teachers, integrate AI into schools in an ethical and strategic way, and develop language technologies to ensure that AI supports the preservation of the Estonian language and culture in the digital age. "Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to AI-powered solutions that help them acquire the skills and knowledge essential for the society of the future. A strong AI foundation in education will enable today's students to succeed in tomorrow’s job market and elevate Estonia’s economy and global competitiveness to a new level," Kallas stated.

"AI is already shaping our everyday lives. If we do not teach young people to use AI critically, ethically, and responsibly, we risk becoming passive spectators in an information war where misinformation and manipulation spread faster than ever before," Kallas added.

At 3:50 pm today, Ministers Kallas and Adlercreutz will sign the joint declaration on AI in education at Tallinna Pelgulinna State Gymnasium and hold a press conference, which will also be streamed live on the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research’s Facebook page.

As part of the visit, a bilateral meeting at Tallinn Music and Ballet School (MUBA) will provide an opportunity for Minister Kallas to present Estonia’s ongoing education reforms and AI-related initiatives to her Finnish counterpart. The ministers will also visit the Rakett69 Science Studio, where they will meet with representatives of Unicorn Squad, a technology initiative for girls.
